Fortaleza Brazil tourism

Teatro José de Alencar:The theater is a memorial to the famous poet from Ceará. It is the main tourist attraction of Fortaleza.

 

Between the main facade and the performance auditorium is an inner courtyard. Noteworthy are the famous gardens by Burle Marx.

Ponte Metálica (photo): This bridge numbers among the major attractions of the city. The old iron construction is coverd with a wooden roof. 

Mercado Central (photo, photo1): The market is impressive through its huge offer of handicrafts, and leather goods.

Praça dos Mártires (photo): Adjacent to the Fortaleza N.S. de Assunção fort ist the Praça dos Mártires square. Here the heroes of the "Confederação do Equador" were executed.

Centro de Turismo (top):
These beautiful hammocks are being sold in the tourism center of Fortaleza with more than 100 shops. In the former prison there is also an art and culture museum.

Catedral Metropolitana
(photo): The construction of the cathedral began in 1930. It was consecrated in 1978 and seats 5000 people. The towers are 75m high.

Estátua do Iracema (photo): This statue is a landmark of the city, recalling the famous novel by José de Alencar.
